Capturing the Past is the project we set up in 2016 to train people and groups across the Yorkshire Dales to catalogue and digitise their own local history archives.
The current collection of archives remains freely available at Yorkshire Dales Community Archives – which since 2026 has being maintained by the North Craven Building Preservation Trust.

We campaigned over many years to protect more of the Dales by increasing the size of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. As a result in 2016 the Yorkshire Dales National Park became 25% bigger!

In 2008 we campaigned in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Green Lanes Alliance to ban motorised vehicles from nine vulnerable tracks.

We actively supported the saving of the Settle-Carlisle railway line.
